Recently my Acer display started to scramble all different green and yellow lines going very fast. You can't do anything except shut the pc down.

I've done last know good config, ran system recovery, looked for updated driver. It can do it in safe mode and before or after windows starts. I've checked everything I know to and can't get the issue resolved.

I finally hooked up an external monitor and everything works great. It appears to be a hardware problem probably with the video card. Does anyone have information on how to replace the video card in this laptop?

Any help would be appreciated.

For the vast majority of cases, and including the Aspire V3-551, you cannot replace the video card on your laptop by yourself. This requires soldering skills, access to OEM-only hardware, and a knowledge of the system that is typically only available to Acer technicians. On top of all of this, it is simply cost-ineffective, as laptop GPUs are rarely bought by consumers and often fetch very high prices on gray market channels.

If your laptop works fine with an external monitor, perhaps your laptop display is not working correctly. In any case, I recommend having the laptop serviced.

I had one in here the other day that did the same thing.... fine on an external, the main screen was all screwy... $87 dollars and about 45 minutes to replace the screen and it worked fine.... if the Video Card were bad, it would replicate the issue on the external LCD, since it is not, replacing the screen should solve your issue without a problem.
