I got this MSI FX420 for almost 3 years now, it used to be a little beast for me giving me super acceptable performance, new games at that year running at acceptable framerates but there's something I don't know happened, I went out the house while my siblings watch a movie on this laptop hooked up on an HDMI, when I came back and play some dota on it, everytime I run the game it shuts down, I cleaned the laptop and have it sit on top of a notebook cooler, the problem is intermittent, sometimes it shutsdown, sometime nope. But one thing I noticed is that my laptops game framerate dropped significantly that it makes me cry, also my cpu rating of 6.something went down to it's lowest 4.something but I reinstalled windows it went up to 5.3 now. There's no bottlenecking since it has 8gb of ram.

also strange my GPU isn't showing any temps.

It's pretty shameful in my part, I'm an IT guy but I couldn't figure out the problem. :(

Solution
Hi,

Please do try these steps that might help to solve that issue.
- Uninstall the graphics card driver from Device Manager and in Programs and Features as well since it should have something related to NVIDIA in there as well.
- Once uninstalled download and install the latest driver from NVIDIA support site.
- Here's the link: AMD - http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
- Use the Auto Detect feature so they could give you the latest and accurate driver for your graphics card.
- Lastly reboot it once the latest driver has been installed.
