will 4gb ram be enough

i havae a hp pavilion dv6 with 4gb ram will i be able to download windows 10 that uses 3gb without making me laptop slow or break

It should be fine. Windows 10 has been designed so that even Windows tablets with only 1GB of RAM can use the OS.

The Windows 10 upgrade allows you to rollback to your previous OS in case you do not like it. If you do not trust the rollback feature, then you can always download a free program like Macrium Reflect to create an image of your current C: drive, then restore the image of the OS later should you decide Win 10 is not for you.
