Should I try to Update or Replace Laptop?

So I have an Asus U50A-RBBML05 Laptop. It's been hanging on for about 5 or 6 years now and the battery finally kicked the bucket on me the other day. I started looking online for replacement batteries (can get one around 20$) and while I was looking I started wondering if it would be worth upgrading other parts of the machine. Was thinking of picking up some Ram. Not too sure how to go about doing it or if it is even worth it so I figured I'd ask around and see what people on here think.

Any help you can give me is appreciated. Should I hold onto it and upgrade it or start saving for a new one??

See if you can't replace the hard drive with a SSD.
You will be amazed at how much better everything runs.
Use google to see how it is done on your particular unit.
I like Samsung for the ssd. Samsung has a ssd migration utility that copies your hard drive to a ssd.
When done, you replace your hard drive with the ssd.
I have done this with every laptop with marvelous results.

Normally 4gb is plenty.
If you want 8gb, that is a cheap upgrade, but be careful about compatibility.
Kingston has a good upgrade app that will identify exactly what upgrades are possible for your particular unit.
I'd just start saving for a new one. You could maybe add RAM and an SSD to your old one. But the CPU and/or GPU could be problematic, and those two things are what would make the most difference, I would think. And those cheap aftermarket batteries don't always work properly, either.
