I need help here. Just got my new laptop, upgraded from something with a 2nd gen i3 with integrated graphics. Now, my new system can't seem to match the performance from my older laptop while on integrated graphics, and even sometimes when using my 970m for a browser. For example, when playing 60fps YouTube videos with HD Graphics, it seems to lock itself at 30 fps and stutters more while on full-screen (but stays at 60fps when I'm not fullscreen). Switching to my 970m makes it better, but my old laptop could even handle that no problem... hell my phone can even do that. Same goes for Agar.io: HORRIBLE performance on integrated graphics, runs fine on my old laptop and on my 970m.

The problem seems to lie in Firefox and Chrome, IE plays well with my integrated graphics. The smoothscroll extension on Chrome worked on every computer I ever used without a problem, and now it stutters and lags like hell on my new machine. Same applies to two finger scrolling with the trackpad, great performance in IE, barely usable in Chrome, usable in Firefox.

Is this a problem with the browsers or Nvidia's Optimus technology? Or is it something else? I'm really confused here...

I have an Alienware 15 with an i7 4710HQ, 970m and 16GB RAM, on Windows 8.1.

Just to add, the themes in Chrome also get messed up. The theme applies without a hitch at first, then after closing and re-opening the browser later on, it seems to not load properly, so an element will be missing and reverted back to the original (and boring) theme. It sometimes cuts an image completely in half around where the URL is.... Firefox doesn't have any issues with themes though...

Sorry, I must have worded that wrong. I got an entirely new laptop, it's just not performing as good in Chrome and Firefox compared to my older and weaker laptop.

My old laptop was using the same netowrk, and 60fps YouTube videos work when I launch the browser with my GTX 970m. It seems to be a compatibility issues with Nvidia's optimus or Intel HD Graphics. And it is true that my laptop has a 4k screen, but the thing is, Internet Explorer works just fine running on integrated graphics. Chrome and Firefox have issues.

Found a work-around. After setting my resolution from 3840x2160 to 1920x1080, everything works fine, but Chrome's UI is off, tiny in some areas and normal in others.... Firefox works fine and 60fps video playback works on every browser. Agar.io still lags but that must be my internet connection. Still not solved, since IE had no problem at 4k, but it might show why high-dpi screens are not recommended with windows... thinking of returning and getting a Eurocom M5 Pro, but we'll see.... it's more expensive. Hopefully Chrome/Firefox will address this performance issue soon.
