I am currently using an asus u36sd. I am very satisfy with the machine, but it looks like asus doesn't offer newer version of this machine So I been thinking about buying the xps13 as a replacement. I have 2 concerns about the xps 13:
1) the xps13 uses a low voltage core i5-5200u, so I really wonder if it offer any speed boost over the asus u36sd's core i5-2410m
2) I've read a lot of bad review about the xps13 track pad, it would suck a lot of pay 1000 and end up with something doesn't work as well as the old machine.

my girlfriend needs a laptop for work, and I have the option of buying a cheap laptop for her (which would be heavier, probably slower, run hotter, and well just worst the my old machine in everyway), or upgrade now (since this machine is 3 years old) and give her my old trusted laptop.

the laptop is for web browsing, Microsoft office and matlab, watch Netflix, and maybe league of legends (very unlikely) .

so it would be wonderful if I can get some input from some xps13 owners :D. if you know of a similar new laptop please point me to it. I am a big fan of ultrabook like laptop with full power cpu

LoL on Dell XPS 13. I am assuming software is being used to record gameplay at 1080p. If so then actual performance should be around 10% - 15% better than in the video. At QHD resolution (which you do not care about), the Youtuber switched back to the camcorder probably because the performance hit recording with software at QHD resolution is excessively high.

Lucky you, im acutally using it as i'm typing this.

I never say any bad reviews for the trackpad, personally i think the trackpad works flawlessly. Its really really smooth and detects perfectly when i click, right click or when my palm is on the trackpad. The i5-5200U works better than the 2410m for sure, and its better as it uses less power so there is more battery power, and that battery is great. I remember watching 4 movies in my car with highest brightness on and it dropped down to around 75% at the end of the trip so big plus to the battery for sure.

As for the display, i have the 1920x1080 resolution one as the 4k version was too expensive for me, but i can say for SURE that the screen is absolutely GORGEOUS. The colors are very vibrant, high brightness, extremely sharp even for 1080 and the bezels make me want to jizz.

The keyboard is pretty standard, nothing special to say about it, it just allows for pretty fast and accurate typing and it doesn't get tiring at all. The backlight is really really bright as well.

well i think thats enough typing for the specs, and for you i think this laptop would work fine as its by far the lightest laptop i have ever used (my sister has the macbook air), and it will also work very well for microsoft office programs

As for league of legends i can't guarantee it will run on high for sure, but on low settings it can definitely play with tons of FPS. I play csgo with some old friends with this laptop if im desperate, and i get around 50 fps on the lowest settings.

So yeah, definitely a good idea to purchase this laptop for your girlfriend, I just can't explain how good it is all round. Fantastic.

I forgot to add one flaw, is that on the 1920x1080 version there is a lot of weird scaling problems on sort of foreign programs like ccleaner, and hwmonitor, etc. and makes the words in the program either blurry, too big, or too small which is kinda annoying. But that should all be fixed with windows 10.

looking at amazon, I wonder what is the deal with all these certified refurbished, I can't seen to find a non touch with 8 gb of ram. I checked new egg and their price is a bit high. is there any good places to buy this machine ?
