Say I have my headphones plugged into my Blue Yeti's headphone jack, everything sounds fine and dandy, but as soon as I open any software that could record the Yeti, a weird background noise appears, it sounds like interference. So the problem is, why is the noise only picked up while the software is open, it doesn't even have to be recording.

Solution
When you open recording software, a lot of them will try to put your recording hardware into a Paused, Record mode. This is also what Control Panel\Sounds does now by default to allow a pass-thru signal, in order to see meter action. The mic is essentially hot when you open your software but not yet recording. So, you are most likely picking up ambient noise in the room or interference.
