4GB vs. 8GB on Dell XPS 13

I'm enrolling as a Chemical Engineering student this fall, and I've decided on the Dell XPS 13 as my computer. The Signature Edition is only $799 at the Microsoft Store right now and comes with 4GB of RAM, but a friend of mine currently at school said that it would be best to have 8GB in order to run some of the engineering programs. The nearest model with 8GB of RAM costs an additional $200. Is the upgrade worth it/necessary?

Note: RAM is soldered on to the board so I can't upgrade it myself.

The problem with laptops like that is it doesn't just come with 4 more gigs of memory. It probably comes with a higher end cpu and a number of other things as well. Collectively bringing up the price $200,-

4 gb of ram is not worth $200,-

Having 8 Gb is probably worth it though. So you might want to look at some other brands again, HP as mentioned above or MSI for instance.

OR, considering this is a range, all XPS 13s will probably have the same mobo and therefore it should be able to accomodate 8 gb.
Ask if the 8 gig is 2*4 and the 4 gig is 1*4. If this is the case, find out the specifics of that 4 gig, buy it yourself (you should be coming in at maybe 1/5th of that $200) and plug it in.
