I have a toshiba laptop,os is win8.1 and whenenver I close the the lid instead of going to Sleep mode it shutsdown and then after opening the lid the os reboots from the very beginning. This issue happened when I updated both windows8.1 to get the win10 applet in notification bar to make reservation and updated bios from version v1.2 to latest v1.4 (I know it isn't good to update bios unless we have a reason to do because its risky) but I updated the bios via Toshiba Default Downloading Manage aka Toshiba Service Station so no problems here because I'm not downloading from any external source the service station came with my laptop preinstalled. So I don't think that updating bios has done this mess because I've downloaded it from trusted source and successfully installed by flashing it in EEPROM.Then the computer reboots everything was working fine. And from that day is problem is recurring.Options from Power Settings all of them on both OnBattery and OnCharging are set to "Never".Although sleep timer is also disabled :( .Now I'm in serious trouble :(

Any idea?
Thanks.

Solution
Seems like the system is crashing due to something, could be a driver, which is why it's turning on clean instead of from Sleep. After you upgraded Windows did you install the latest Toshiba drivers? You'd want chipset, video, audio, power at least.

Doesn't worked.Although when my laptop was working fine its WHITE LED indicator blinks after a few seconds of interval when lid is closed (showing that laptop is in sleep mode when all was working fine). And now when U apply command you gave, closed the lid the WHITE LED indicator is freezed like before (it emits white light still, probably freezed) After 2-3 minutes laptop shutsdown and now light is indicated. When I press the power button it starts from the beginning. The issue was fixed when I updated my graphics card driver but only 1-2 days. After that the problem is still persisting.

Finally since a month has passed I made it work by additional Windows updates(The same process for Windows updates wasn't working before because I was playing GTA V and the same time updating process was running and some people say that it is necessary to close all applications before updating process and so this time I didn't do anything I just left the updating process on its own and it worked!).

On the contrary other devices drivers including graphics card are upto date. Now everything seems to working fine. Thanks all of the Moderators I appreciate and respect your hardwork and experience. :) Good Luck for more solutions in near future. :)
