Essentially as the title suggests. I've been trying to get a few ports forwarded so I can host a game server, Killing Floor 2 on Steam, in particular. I generally know *how* to port forward, but I just cannot seem to get it working. This game requires four ports to be opened: 7777, 27015, 8080, and 20560. That being said, I went into my router settings (where you type in your ip and all that) to port forward these ports. This router/modem has a rather simple layout. So I forwarded these ports, but after doing so, they do not do anything. In essence, it is just not working. I believe I'm doing it right, although I might be doing some things wrong, which is where my inquiry comes in. So, I am using my static ip on my device- I am forwarding these to that ip. Is that the correct way to do it? From all that I've read, that seems to be the case, but just verifying there. Regardless, I would appreciate any assistance on this matter.

By default, 99.99% of the connections will get a new IP address everytime they are rebooted. If you pay for a fixed IP address, they will give you one. Basically, to host a game, you would either have to give out the IP address (which your router would forward to the server via port forwarding).

You can find out your temporary IP by going to whatismyip.com. That IP address would work until your router was rebooted.

This is my first time hearing the words "fixed ip address". Where could I go to figure this out? Are you talking about the default gateway or the wan ip? Again, I've just never heard of that so I'm in the dark about that in particular.
