Can't get my external monitor working with mobile GPU

Hi,

I just bought a new 1440p monitor. I tried to connect my laptop to the external monitor which worked. But as my integrated graphics card can only go to a resolution of 1080p, I could only bump the resolution up to 1080p. My Nvidia 610m however supports 1440p.

Does someone know how to make my OS run on my mobile gpu? I tried this through BIOS, but I couldn't find an option. So I went to 'device manager' and disabled my intregrated card. But now my laptop does not find my external monitor anymore. It also runs pretty hot, which is rare. It only gets hot when I run demanding games...

Does someone knows a solution? My laptop is an ASUS r500V with 6GB RAM, i7-3610QM and an Nvidia 610m. The screen is the Acer acer G277HUsmidp.

I'm not planning to game on a resolution of 1440p, just want to watch movies or browse on the web.

Thank you.

How optimus works, the igpu is physically wired to control the monitors but that isn't the issue as it can display 1600p. The issue is the hdmi bandwidth and the driver may complain it's not enough but you can just create a custom res in intel control panel. Try to select 60hz but if it doesn't let you then just use 50hz.
