Headphone Jack problems

Right-click the speaker in the bottom-right, and then select "Playback devices" and set the headphone to the default if it is there.

Is it a two-cabled or one-cabled headset? If it is 2-cabled it will not work unless you plug it into an audio/mic combo jack. If you do not have one you will need a splitter cable.

That's the problem. I experienced the same issue a while back. If you have a headset that uses one cable for both audio and mic you can only plug it into a combo jack, which are only found on laptops moreso than desktops. You need something like this http

According to your original post:
"No audio will play through anything I plug into my laptop's headphones jack"
So you are plugging it into a combo jack? Not a headphone jack?
