I would like to get this particular turntable working properly but I do not want to buy parts that are not necessary. I get sound, but it is too low. I thought perhaps changing the needle might correct this problem. What else could it be and how do I go about checking to see what is or is not working? Thank you for any assistance you may offer

Does the receiver or pre-amp you are using have a phono input? The signal level from a turntable IS vary low. A special phono amplifier is required. If your amp/receiver doesn't have a purpose made input, you can buy a separate phono pre-amp that will increase the level to standard line level.
