I got this new laptop,

when the display goes to sleep (example: i set the "Turn off display after x minutes" option in Windows 8.1 to 1 minute, and then don't do anything on the computer for a minute), moving the mouse, pressing keys on the keyboard etc, won't wake the display up. I have to press the power button to turn the whole computer off, and press it again to power it back on.
This only happens when the DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS is set to lowest.
If display brightness is set to even 1 step above lowest, the screen will wake up on moving the mouse.
Plugged in/ battery operation makes no difference.

The laptop has:
1>Intel HD Graphics 5500 (on intel core i7 5500U CPU).
AND
2>Nvidia GeForce GTX 850M (4GB version).

ALL drivers are "Factory Installed", i did not install any of my own software on this computer yet. This behavior is present right out of the box.

The only things I did on it are:
*Ran Windows Updates.
*Installed CPU-Z
*Installed OpenHardwareMonitor

It has a software to automatically check for driver updates (HP Support Assistant, also factory installed), and I checked for driver updates using this. It says no updates are available.
I also checked manually on their website, the graphics drivers (for both the adapters) and the BIOS are up to date.

What do I do? :(

Solution
i would go to the vendor web page for the laptop...check to see if you have the newest bios...look at the bios rev listed on there web page and there video drivers. if the video drivers are a few months old go to nvidia web page and then intel. use intel driver check and or download the newest intel chipset drivers and video drivers. a lot of times the drivers on hp are old.

In response to deleted post - SS

Not funny brother, please help me if you can, i spent a lot of money on this laptop :(

The system itself is working. It's only the display that fails to wake up..
I can still switch ON switch OFF the keyboard backlight by pressing the backlight control keys on the keyboard.

Thanks somrizio,
the BIOS is so primitive, it hardly has any options at all.
I just have
*boot mode (UEFI/LEGACY)
*Secure boot state (On/Off)
*Pre-boot USB3 support (Enabled/Disabled)
*Fan Always ON (Enabled/Disabled)
*USB charging port (Enabled/Disabled)
*Boot device priority.
And some options to set passwords, restore defaults etc.
No option for S3/S5 etc.

Also, the computer is not sleeping, it's just the display that's sleeping (computer is set to sleep after 30 minutes, display is set to sleep after 1 minute). And if the display brightness is anything above the lowest level, it works- display will wake up if I move the mouse. But if it's set to the lowest level (i prefer the lowest level, i mostly use it at night in a dark room, hence i got the backlit keyboard) it won't wake up.
What does this look like? A hardware fault? Or a driver fault?
Should I call up HP tech support?
