HDMI ARC No Sound

Hi, i have a samsung tv and phillips HTL5140 soundbar, both are connected to each other but i cannot get sound.Turn on tv it turns on the soundbar, volume goes up and down fine but get no sound.

Put my blu ray player into HDMI IN on the soundbar i get sound, cannot get sound out of HDMI ARC connection.

Please can someone help?

Make sure you have ARC active on the TV and soundbar. It's not on by default on the TV.

Hiya, i activate both of them, the HDMI ARC flashes on the sound bar, which indicates on the manual that HDMI ARC on tv is not compatible or the sound output is not compatible, Checked with Samsung and the TV is Compatible 48HU7500 model, changed the HDMI Cable as well, Phillips say i need to buy a HDMI ARC cable it must say ARC on the cable or it wont work

yeh right.

Still no sound.

May need to delve into your audio settings on your TV,disable Dolby ,enable stereo or pcm .

Edit - the soundbat supports DTS so in theory it should be the other way round - you need to enable dolby on the TV audio.

Failing that optical or a 3.5mm jack connection id going to be your best option.

Hi Madmatt30,

the only options i have is PCM and neo 2.1, it is set to pcm, but will double check tonight.

May need to use optical if this dosent work.

Neo *** is Dolby DTS mate - may sort your issue as your soundbar from the specs does not support linear pcm via HDMI.

i got it working but only with optical lead, i have a choice now sound wise PCM or Neo *** or DTS, which will give me the best sound ?

In theory neo mate as its digital & should split the bass frequency off.
I doubt youll notice a massive difference tbh though.
