Hey all,
whenever i try to turn on my laptop, it gets stuck on the starting windows screen and wont turn on.
I am thinking it may be due to a faulty hdd but im not sure.

also, when trying to boot in safe mode it freezes and gets stuck with "Loaded: \CLASSPNP.SYS" at the bottom.

advice please?

Hi there,

Try to boot it with a Windows boot disk (any kind is OK as from Win 7 up, don't know about vista and XP, I have plenty of windows7 install disks from Dell delivered with the PC's I get).

Once booted, Instead of installing you go to repair, try to find the Command prompt (black DOS-Window) and repair your HDD with the command CHKDSK c: /F /R

This helped for me a few times, try it and let us know

here is the list of command prompt switches for the CHKDSK-command:
/F Automatically Fix file system errors
/X Fix file system errors on the disk, (Win2003 and above)
dismounts the volume first, closing all open file handles.
/R Scan for and attempt Recovery of bad sectors.
/V Display the full path and name of every file on the disk.
/L:size NTFS only: change the log file size to the specified number of kilobytes.
If size is not specified, displays the current log size and the drive type
(FAT or NTFS).
/C Skip directory corruption checks.
/I Skip corruption checks that compare directory entries to the
file record segment (FRS) in the volume's master file table (MFT)

Cheers, Louise.
