Hello,

I recently have my icon changed for jpeg pictures !
What's the meaning of this icon ?
How can I set up back the 'normal/standard' icon ? (why do I get this unusual icon by the way)

Find attached a screenshot of the properties for the jpeg pict (which became the default icon today).

Sorry for my broken english, it's not my mother tongue.

Thank you
AG

You could try the following (it involves changing the default program that opens your image files):
1) Right click on an image
2) Click on "Open with..."
3) Click on "Choose default program..."
4) From the options choose "Windows Photo Viewer" (the icon will look like the one it used to look like) and make sure there is a check in the box at the bottom beside "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
5) Click on OK

That should restore the icon that you are used to seeing.

Thanks for your reply.
I had tried first the steps without success.
However it seems more complex.
This is not the only extension affected. Not only for picture, as you can see attached it also affect a .rar (compressed file).

For me, it sounds more something linked to the icon directly, but then I am lost. I don't know how to manage icons.

I am on W8.

Same icon for a compressed file in .rar

Yes they do open with the corresponding softwares without problem.

Yes I installed "Debut Video Capture Software" (virus free, freeware http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/index.html).
Apparently since installed I got the ugly icons.... (from the option of Debut soft, there is nothing related to icons, or default viewer,...etc...)

How can I fix/replace/restore? this corrupted icon DB ?

"1. Close and save anything that you are working on. This command will kill explorer and restart the computer when completed.

2. Open a command prompt in Windows 7 or Windows 8.

3. In the command prompt, Copy and paste each command line below exactly as is one at a time and press enter after each command.

WARNING: The last command will restart the computer, so be sure to close and save anything that you are working on first. •ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache
•taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
•DEL "%localappdata%\IconCache.db" /A
•shutdown /r /f /t 00
4. The IconCache.db file has now been rebuilt.

5. If the icons are still not displaying properly, then download and merge the ICO option in this tutorial for Windows 7 or Windows 8 to restore the default associations of .ico (icon) files."

This is very common problem with the applications. To set the previous icon you have to follow these simple steps:
1. Right-click on the desktop, then choose Properties.
2. Now select Appearance from the category.
3. Now click on the Advanced button.
4. At the Item list, select Icon.
5. You can see the size of the icon. It may be 32.
6. Set its size 31 then press OK, OK.
7. Now again repeat this process and reset the size on 32.

Well kenrivers, I tried but it doesn't work !!
(to do the same rebuild on win8 there's a little change https://www.winability.com/how-to-erase-icon-thumbnail-cache-windows-8/)

It rebuild my icon, the same 'wrong way' as before !?! (damned ugly icon) :) anyway thank you.

I don't know if I can fix it. I already uninstalled the last prgm I had installed (Debut), nothing change.

Sorry to hear that did not fix it. Hopefully someone who has a solution will post it.

Search registry for "shell32.dll,19" delete the "Default Icon" folder all results are found in, there will be a result for every file type effected. There doesn't seem to be any normal use of "shell32.dll,19" outside of changes made by Debut. Icons will go back to normal after opening the file type again or changing the default open with program to something else and back again. That extra Default Icon entry in registry is what is preventing regular function.

Thanks a lot Rabeee, I've fixed my problem by deleting every "Default Icon" that had shell32.dll,19 in it.
Actually the problem for me was also caused by install and uninstalling "Debut Video Capture Software - NCH Software" \
However,
Your solution fixed my messed up file icons, but i still have another problem, when I launch games like "rise of nation" or "civilization" everything is fine at first,(when the initial advertisement of the game software comes up) but after that, when i actually want to begin to play, the window size become a little smaller, It is not a problem with the game resolution, I didn't changed it and it was fine before. It began doing this mess after uninstalling "Debut". I actually find the shell32.dll,19 in one of the game folders in regedit. I hoped that the problem of smaller size window during the game had been resolved, but it didn't.
can you help on this? maybe another string in regedit that needs to be deleted?
thanks in advance
