Problem: The screen flickers and scrambles, especially when opening and closing the laptop, even while booting up. It doesn't scramble or flicker on an external monitor.

Things I've tried:

  • ■ Replaced video cable
    ■ Secured cable connections
    ■ Tested on external monitor and looks good so it's definitely not the video card or drivers
Solution: Please advise

as external monitor works ok with laptop then the laptop's built in videocard is not causing the problem. as you replaced the cables from the motherboard to the screen & still have the problem then it is not the cables that is causing the problem but the screen itself as it has a non-removeable circuit board on it to. link to place were I get screens for my customers' laptops & ipads. http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/

From the original post:
"Tested on external monitor and looks good so it's definitely the LCD"

Also because it worked on an external monitor, that also tells me that the video card is working fine and it's not a driver issue.

Except that I replaced "the connection that comes from the monitor". But basically yeah, I was thinking it was the LCD aswell but was hoping someone more knowledgable than me or with past experience with this same problem could shed some light on this.

Technically this is an lcd screen on a laptop. I replaced the big board with ribbons and cables that connects the lcd to the motherboard ("The video cable"). I highly doubt the ports are the culprit, I wouldn't rule it out but if that is the case, I need a new motherboard. I'd like to see if there is any other troubleshooting I can do before getting to that point.
