looking for a good surround sound

Hello, i have a budget of about 320$, i want to find a good surround sound 5.1 with a receiver. i would like the sub to hit lowest note at most 20 hz and highest 2 khz. i don't want any pyle, sony, samsung, and bose, if refubershied it would be fine. I prefer to have onyko, denon, yamaha, and dayton. my limit for the size of the receiver is 20 in. wide 8 in. tall and 19.5 in. long

personally i would suggest NOT getting a htib (home theater in a box) set as most are extremely limited in terms of inputs (some do not even have 5.1/7.1 support on inputs). your budget however puts you clean in the htib market generally speaking. most nicer sets (there are not too many which include a true receiver) are more expensive and most speaker sets alone are typically more expensive.

i would recommend the energy 5.1 classic take set ($300) or perhaps the copycat of it the monoprice 10565 ($221) paired up with a budget receiver. for the money spent you will get good sound quality and more features/connectivity than a htib.

i know you said you do not like sony, however it is worth noting that some of them are available at low cost with surprisingly strong amplifiers. onkyo can be had for a budget as well so is also worth considering. while i agree that denon and yamaha (as well as pioneer) are great brands they also are typically more expensive and have lower power outputs except on more expensive models.

the above is going to cost more than $320, but well worth it if it gets you into a full receiver over one of the combined dvd/bd/receiver combo boxes htibs have.

just a suggestion. you can make your own decisions.

buy a nice klipsch system im running one with a ancient receiver and it sounds AMAZING.

agreed, klipsch speakers are nice (if you like their harsher more detailed treble) but also are typically fairly expensive. i'm running a quintet iv satelite speaker set ($500 for just 5 satelites, subwoofer was $350) and they are great. not sure how the cheaper klipsch hd theater sets compare (which exceed your budget for just the speaker/sub set) but without a receiver you're still dead in the water since you need something to power them with.
