Hi, Im buying a new laptop for programming and gaming as well. I stumbled upon 3 different brands of laptops that took my attention. Asus, Dell and Acer.

Asus: Amd A8 7200p with r5 230, 4gb of ram
Acer: AMD a8 7100 with r7 m260, 4gb of ram
Dell: Intel core i5 4210u with r5 m240, 4gb ram

Well i know that i5 is the better performer but wouldnt be able to benefit any amd's dual graphics solution. Any advice would be much appreciated :)

What games are you talking about playing? Those are lower end systems for games, the best video card you have there is the r7 m260 which is still too low for any type of demanding games unless you play at lowest setting and low resolution.

If you are looking for a gaming laptop, just let us know what you budget is. If it's anything under $700 you may as well look at used systems or you will have low settings in games and even then some will not run smoothly. A gaming laptop to play newer titles well at Medium or Medium-Low settings will start at $1,000.

The NVidia 840m/940m is probably the lowest card you'd want in a low end gaming laptop, it scored 25% higher in PassMark than the R7 M260, and that is for the low end of gaming...

Thanks for answering :) but with its graphics card, will it be able to handle games of 2014? Like in smooth frame rates?

this radeon r5 is with 1GB DDR3 right ? Its a not bad and not the best video card for gaming but you should handle most of the games ( not all of 2014 ) but you can always can change the settings and make the game works better you know ;) If you want a better gaming machine.. get same Dell with same CPU but mb with a bit more RAM and a bit better GPU ( you may have 150-200$ more but you will be happy about it)

The 860m would be a solid recommendation for a gaming laptop, it scored double the 840 and well more than double the Radeon M260.

GeForce GTX 860M 1641
GeForce 840M>> 840
Radeon R7 M260>> 623
