My Laptop Sony Vaio VPCF11M1E (Core i5 750M Nvidia GT 330) have various issues with USB mouses, the USB keyboard is working fine but all my mouses (4 different USB mouses) aren't fully working, the Logitech Marble worked fine until today, the buttons still work but i can't move around the pointer, other mouses never fully worked but LED leds on mouses light up when connected.

I tried disconecting and removing the battery, the drivers aren't an issue, im expert on that so i know, i think the USB part of PC got damaged by static electricity, i had big monitor and strong 5.1 surround speakers connected to the laptop, and external keyboard and mouse via USB.

I hate using the laptop mouse, is this a hardware problem or is it softare related?

If static electricity hit your USB chip, most likely, no usb device would work. But that would definately be a hardware issue.

Computers are very, very sensitive to static electricity. One shock can kill an entire motherboard instantly. This is why it is highly recommended that you wear a grounding strap when working on any computer.

I haven't been working on the computer, it was never opened, i meant the static that 75w surround speakers connected via headphone jack could make, the headphone jack is right near the USB ports, when i disconect the speakers they release a loud electric noise which goes away after turning them on and off, this neveer happens when disconecting same speakers from desktop computer.

Anyway, i should have been clearer regarding what i meant by static, i didn't meant the ussual static that can kill the mobo during adding of parts.

The think is that the mouse stoped working while i was not touching the laptop, just browsing with Chrome and all of a sudden it stoped the movement, i thought the computer froze but then i realized the USB mouse buttons were still working and onboard laptop mouse was working fine too.

Could a software related issue cause the USB mouse to stop working all of a sudden? Is the USB damaged since 3 out of 4 USB mouses i have don't work on it for since i got the laptop?

Well, I guess that would be possible, but as soon as you restart the computer, the drive is going to load from that hard drive again. And it should be back to where you when you installed Windows.

Have you ever downloaded USB drivers and installed them? If you have, where did you get the drivers?

Windows automatically installed the drivers, all these USB mouses work on desktop and other laptops in "plug & play" fashion without problems, there is probably some hardware related issues with USB ports not connecting well because some functions work like buttons and red lights.

The mouse works on other desktop computer.

The laptop doesn't have USB 3.0, just 2x USB 2.0 with power.
