I have a lg49lb550v - i have looked at the tv and it doesn't have a headphone socket. The only thing for audit out is "digital audio out" - how do i connect my pc speakers to the tv please? Very grateful for any ideas pls.

Solution
by digital audio out do you mean a spdif coax (rca looking jack) or spdif optical?

likely you can use an optical (or spdif coax) to rca adapter like

optical-to-rca-1.jpg

then convert rca to 3.5mm. self powered speakers (ones with an ac plug) will work fine. though, if they are unpowered (no ac plug) you'll need an amp

I have an idea that will work, and anyone please correct me if you can find a cheaper solution.

You should buy a DAC to connect the analog speakers to the digital output that your tv accepts.
As far as which DAC to go with, I would get something quality instead of something cheap.

DAC - $149 Schiit Modi 2 Uber
http://schiit.com/products/modi-2
And
an adapter for the 3mm pc speaker cable, so it will fit into the Modi 2:
http://www.amazon.com/YCS-Basics-Female-Headphone-Adapter/dp/B00D64J1GG/ref=sr_1_3?s=audio-video-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1432341716&sr=1-3&keywords=3mm+to+1+4+inch+adapter

AND
a cable from the Modi DAC to the tv.
http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-101419-Molded-Optical-Toslink/dp/B001O7NZYG/ref=sr_1_1_m?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1432341954&sr=1-1&keywords=optical+cable

So you plug the speakers, with the adapter, into the DAC, and plug the DAC, with the toslink optical cable, into the tv.
Take it or leave it, but good luck!

yeah but isnt a $150 dac just a bit much for "just" pc speakers? the modi certainly is quite a nice dac, but overkill for average pc speakers.

considering $20 products such as http://www.amazon.com/Orei-DA21-Optical-Converter-Headphone/dp/B008EPW7TA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1432344688&sr=1-1&keywords=optical+to+headphone exist. while not high quality its all you really need for standard pc speakers without breaking the bank. the op might want to look at some other models available, but i dont think spending over $40 is required.

^ True true. I agree with you on all of that ssddx. I think my idea is overreaching, and I did not immediately find your much more realistic solution.
Now get some really nice monitors... definitely going to want a good amp/dac to make them sing.

OP good luck with ssddx's solution!
