Hi
I have a Asus K46C
It's GPU is not enough to handle the new games
My question is : is it possible to upgrade it's GPU (to gtx 970m or something else)
Thanks for help ☺

Solution
Using an external graphics card is possible, but it is relatively expensive and you will get limited performance.

You can purchase the Alienware Graphics Amplifier for $200. It is nothing more than a case, a power supply and a motherboard with a PCI-e x4 slot that allows you install a GPU that you buy which is then connected to the USB 3.0 port in your laptop.

The PCI-e x4 (mean 4 data lanes) slot means it will be a waste of money to install an overly powerful GPU. The more powerful a GPU is the more data lanes it will need to transfer data. I would say that a PCI-e x4 slot basically limits you to a GPU that...
Nope. That graphics chip is soldered into the motherboard.

Only a few specific gaming laptop models that generally cost around $1,400+ will allow you to upgrade the GPU. There are $2,000+ gaming laptops out there which do not allow you to upgrade the GPU so as I stated "specific gaming laptop models"...

Thanks for the answer

And what about an external graphic card?

I would say that a PCI-e x4 slot basically limits you to a GPU that generally costs no more than around $200 (just a guess). The USB 3.0 port is another limitation because only so much data can transfer over it. It the Amp had a PCI-e x16 slot which allow you to install a nVidia GTX Titan X GPU (~$1,000), the USB port would be a huge bottleneck because of the limited data transfer.

You should do you own research into the Amp to find out what it's limitations are.
