why wont my laptop connect to TV with HDMI cable

I have tried 2 HDMI cables to connect laptop to tv, I do not get any response whatsoever. I have gone into the control screen and adjusted the screen resolution as I have read in instructions and still no good. I have a picture of screen 1 and 2 but no identity for my screen 2 (my LG TV) I am pressing input button on my tv 'cable HDMI', the only relevant (as I see it) input button.
I have updated drivers and tried troubleshooting but I still cant solve my problem.

Do you have a friend or relative with a laptop that can help you out? It could be that your laptop's HDMI port is not working properly or the HDTV's HDMI port is not working properly... or both.

Your relative / friend should 1st check if their HDMI port and cable works with their own HDTV. If their laptop works with your HDTV then your laptop's HDMI port is defective. If their laptop does not work with your HDTV, then your HTDV's HDMI port is defective. If that is the case then connect your laptop to another HDTV just to make sure it's HDMI port is also not defective.
