Asus K60I not charging after new battery, adapter and power port replaced

I have had my Asus for several years, recently I bought an OEM battery as the old was no longer charging. My cats have recently chewed the power cord... which I have also recently replaced. Now the power input was flakey... so I performed surgery and replaced that just now.... it is still not taking a charge?
Very frustrated and puzzled what it could be now. Any suggestions.

A simple way to check if the charger is defective,
Turn off your laptop, then remove your battery, next try plugging the charger in the laptop. If the laptop doesn't power on, the problem was likely the charger.

BTW, there are some easier ways to judge the charger issue. If the indicator of the charger doesn't light up solid when you plug it in power, the charger defective. Or, when you plug the charger to your laptop, that the charger LED doesn't light can also draw to the same conclusion.
