Right now, I'm debating between these two laptops.

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store...-Signature-Edition-Laptop/productID.316334000

with 8GB RAM, i5-5200U processor, and 720p resolution

and

http://www.ebay.com/itm/39113108627...l?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=391131086273&_rdc=1

with 12 GB RAM, i5-4210 processor and 1080p resolution.

Both of these would come to $499 with coupons. (I'm trying to spend max 500)

The second laptop has a cheaper protection plan.

If you know of any other laptops that fit y criteria (at least 6GB RAM, backlit keyboard, at least i5 processor, decent battery life, better resolution preferable), feel free to share!

You are comparing a Haswell CPU, the 4210, to the newer Broadwell, the 5200u.

Overall, the 4210 is the better all around CPU. The advantage of the 5200u is the longer battery life through lower power.

I would go with the 4210.
