Everything was fine yesterday except running somewhat slow, so I shut it down. When I tried to turn it back on, it sticks on the hp logo indefinitely. Sometimes it says that it is starting a repair, but same issue, hangs on the hp logo and then to a black screen.
I have tried the removing the battery, holding down the power button, and then restarting without the battery. I have tried running the diagnostics and it fails on the battery and one of the hard drive checks. I'm trying to figure out how to run a chdsk on it, but I can't get it to boot to dos.
I have also tried to run an installation disk, but it asks to boot from cd/dvd, and goes right back to the hanging hp logo when you hit the key.
I've tried everything that I can think of and would appreciate any suggestions.

It never gives an error, just hangs. The HP site from what I can tell recommends running chdsk because of the hard drive failure, but I can't get anywhere that it will run.
