Looking for NEW hard drive. I have read the Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop interface is SATA 2. I have also read on the same forum that it is SATA 1 and only supports 500gb hard drive that I currently have and that this Seagate would be a waste of money and no benefit. http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/solid-state-hybrid/laptop-solid-state-hybrid-drive/ At this time I am not looking for a bargain. Too much difficulty determining what you are actually getting from someplaces that sell new / used / refurbished or OEM. I am just looking for a drive that will work and if possible be an upgrade from the original.
Thank you.

Hey there, awp1962.

Your laptop uses SATA II interface. It supports drives with capacities of up to 2TB, I assume that the thing you've read about the 500GB HDDs is, because the largest capacity drive with which this laptop model was offered - was 500GB, but that doesn't mean that you can't upgrade to a larger HDD. You can go for any HDD as long as it is up to 2TB and its form factor should be 2.5". You can go for a SATA III drive as well, because the SATA interface is backwards compatible and you should have no trouble using a SATA III HDD with your laptop.

Hope that helps.
