I've been looking for a good laptop around $600 and have it down to the Lenovo G50-80 80E501J4US or Z50 59444501. The G50-80 has an i7 5500U and integrated Intel 5500 graphics whereas the Z50 has an i7 4510U and Nvidia 820M. I'll mainly use it for programming, internet, and occasional gaming. Is the slightly slower integrated graphics card worth it for the newer processor?
As you are not serious about gaming the first is the best as the cpu is newer which should result in better battery life and a lighter laptop. It should also help a little with programming as the cpu is better than the 4th gen.
