Hello there, :)

just a quick simple question but, would an external CD/DVD drive work to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Edition (I am NOT a fan of windows 'new' 8/8.1 style OS system, I can work with it but if I got some $$ to spend for a less miserable experience, I will) on a Laptop (Via USB) that has no internal CD/DVD Drive?

I'm planning on getting this Laptop form Amazon/Newegg but, because of how slim and light it is, It has no room for a internal CD/DVD drive. External drives are sold on the market, but, some require drivers before they can even be operational. Maybe its not an issue and the second I plug the external drive into a USB port it will see it as an external Mass storage device or a bootable device... you tell me.

If your wondering what Laptop I'm getting its the MSI GS70 Stealth Pro-065

The External CD/DVD Drive is the LG USB 2.0 Super-Multi Portable DVD Rewriter with M-DISC (What is M-DISC?)

Thanks for all the support,

most store like staples have 8g usb sticks for under 6.00. i got few 16g stick last week for 8.00. the windows iso imges now you can download them from micosoft if you have the oem key. downlaod them to your desktop then run the tool or if you have the dvd you put the dvd in your desktop and point that tool to it. then in about 5 min it make a bootable usb stick from windows dvd.

That is exactly what I did to install windows 10 tech preview on my desktop (sadly it currently is unavailable :( ), but I don't think I can fit a DVD into one of my USB drives. Thanks for the heads up, I will try that out!

Sometimes your laptop would only run on USB 3.0 when you buy it. And it seems like your external CD/DVD drive runs on USB 2.0.
That might be an issue. Try plugging it into a 2.0 port first and see how it works.

Or, try to get an External drive that runs on USB 3.0.

Well, considering smorizio had a good idea about downloading the ISO or using a computer with a DVD/CD drive that works to copy the files to a USB drive (yet again, my desktop with a DVD/Drive is not operation atm, but no worries), ill do that, thanks for all the support! It was great help!
