Specs:
Acer Aspire One Happy Netbook
Model PAV70
Windows 7 Starter
Android (I don't know which version though)
Intel Atom Processor N450 (1.66GHz, 512KB cache)
1GB Memory
250GB HDD (about 200GB)
3-cell Li-ion battery

The other evening I was on the Internet, went away for a outlet of hours and when I returned the screen was black with no back light. The small indicator lights for the battery, etc. towards the front and the power light come on (and were still on when I returned to find the problem) but there is nothing else.

When I restart the computer I can hear the fan going for a bit before either stops and I can also hear the hard drive. I took out the hard drive to check it (via a usb-sata cable adapter). Panda Security checked it and said it was clean, I backedup the files to twould different hard drives and put it back in but the problem remains the same.

I tried downloading the BIOS from the Acer site but I either am not flashing it correctly or it just is t working.

I also have tried to start it up with linuX macpup on a flash drive but that didn't work.

A few times I have been able to access a lit black screen with a flashing cursor but nothing else happens and it appears to be random as to when this occurs.

Twice (while the Linux usb was in) I was able to get the Acer logo to appear but then it went black. Once I was able to get into set up and was looking to change the boot order preference to USB but it froze. I wasn't able to use any of the keys to scroll through and therefore wasn't able to make the change. The other times I started up with the Linux USB the screen remained black and unlit.

Before this things seemed to be fine. Very rarely it might freeze, and saving docements or images from the Internet was slow but that was all.

Is there anything else I can try? What could be the problem? Do I need to replace something??

I don't wish to buy another computer at the moment because I don't have the funds and need this one to work now because it's finals time at Uni. Any help is very much appreciated!!!

Solution
Hello asailer

Generally the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) appears due to hardware change (an incompatible hardware), some virus effecting the system files, or due to wrong or incompatible device drivers).

In your case, this is what you can try before you can go to any authorized service center as a last resort:

Step 1 - Remove the battery, ac adapter and the power cable.

Step 2 - Press the power button for thirty seconds (30 Sec) to drain out the excess power from the inner components like capacitors, etc. of the laptop.

Step 3 - Re-attach the battery.

Step 4 - Power the laptop on.

If this doesn’t work, then please take it to the repairs-man.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!! :)
