Windows 7 extremely slow

My Lenovo Thinkpad T440p laptop, with Windows 7, suddenly started to run extremely slow.

I tried removing the RAM sticks alternately, but the problem persisted. I also checked the RAM health with Memtest86, but all tests passed.

I also reset it to factory settings (via Lenovo Recovery software), but that did not help either.

I booted Ubuntu from a USB drive (without installing), and worked perfectly fine; but I'm not sure which conclusion to draw from that.

So, what else could I try?

Did you completely reset or just revert to a previous restore point?

Whenever you're on the laptop and it's running slow, open task manager and go to the performance tab. Chec kCPU and memory performance and see what percentage of each is being used.

Yes, I completely reset it. So I don't think it's worth to investigate what processes are running, since no changes were made from factory settings.

It's just strange because if you completely wiped the HDD and reinstalled windows and it's slow that would usually point to a hardware issue, but if ubuntu runs fine from a thumb drive that would point back in the opposite direction. I think the only possible culprit would be hard drive, I would check it with chkdsk (right click the hard drive that windows is installed on, go to properties, tools tab, under error checking click check now)

I forgot to mention that the laptop has a SSD, not a HDD. But I ran Lenovo Diagnostics, and all tests passed, including the storage test.

Here's a screenshot of the results:

I tried to copy/paste that link (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/i0GOvaXYMPrZZAJlsWR_o_Cog1u0vu4BpiVAW42dl-ltbc3RByiNdT1IgE_appEELO_bWyyUvSLAIhU=w1277-h539) but there seems to be a permissions issue viewing your content

Have you tried booting to safe mode to see if it runs slowly in safe mode as well? If it's slow in safe mode go to start > type resource monitor in the search bar and open it, click the Disk tab and see if anything is hogging your SSD read/write speeds. If you just see standard stuff like system/explorer.exe and windows is running slowly it would almost have to be a faulty SSD since ubuntu runs fine from a thumb drive
