2.1 Loud System Needed

So I'm looking for a 2.1 system that I would be able to take to parties easily, which would be able to play really loud for a prolonged period of time (4-5 hours ish) as my friends system completely burnt out not long ago after a night out.

I'm pretty much a complete noob when it comes to custom builds with a separate amp to the speakers (so not in a specific kit intended by manufacturer) therefore a complete system would probably be preferable, unless anyone out there could win me over and pretty much tell me exactly what to get.

I was looking at some 2.1 systems where the amp is contained within the sub but the satellites looked quite small on most and looked like they wouldn't be able to withstand being played loud for a few hours. They also didn't really look like they would be able to play really loud but I literally don't know what I am on about.

My budget would be up to £300 and would like to pay over £200 to get quite a nice system. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

UPDATE: I should have mentioned first but I may also like to use the system for gaming or just listening to music at high quality.

I looked at the system below but wasn't sure whether it would do the task at hand. Any advice appreciated.

for convenience you might be best off with a pair of powered loudspeakers. also called active speakers.

many of the larger ones are capable of hitting decent bass tones so would eliminate the need for a subwoofer. many people use them for guitar bands, home rock bands, etc.

while some pc speakers can get pretty loud, they are not meant for large parties and whole house audio.

I can also attest to the cheaper and far less powerfull z523 version as well... I was able to have the police called on several occasions while gaming in the morning (after 8am)

i've owned an x530 in the past an can attest that logitech speakers do get loud for the price. however, for house parties they really arent adequate and will get burned out quickly if this is a regular thing. i've had them cranked up to moderate volume for a few rooms but outdoor parties are a no-no.

Thanks for the help, I have just added a slight update, which I should have included in the original problem, which kind of outright rules out PA speakers, but I do appreciate the advice. After doing a bit of looking around I came across bookshelf speakers which caught my attention a bit, and I was wondering if you could get a pair of them which were in some kind of integrated system or with a separate amp, and I was wondering if something like that would need a separate sub or if I'm just talking complete garbage... By the sounds of things bookshelf speakers are more for moderate volumes but I really don't know what the capabilities are.

Also I would need to be able to plug phones/ipods etc into the system via a headphone jack.

I know that my friends setup that burnt out a while ago was a pair of bookshelf speakers with a teac ag-h300 mkiii amp which sounded great together, which is the kind of thing I am looking for in the £200 - £300 range

a pair of bookshelf speakers either powered ones (with their own amp and power cord) or unpowered with an amp would work then.

since you're in the UK area if you go the unamped route look into wharfdale diamond 10's as they are really pretty decent speakers and not badly priced over there (over here they are double!). you can pair them with a stereo receiver that matches up to their impedence and power draw. while not as portable as powered speakers, its a very good choice and stereo receivers allow connecting multiples sources up quite easily. you can of course look for a stereo amplifier instead though there are not many "good" cheaper units of decent power output.

i can't give you a uk powered speaker recommendation off the top of my head.

The z623 series is rated for 200 watts and can easily support a house party or movies. The 523 however is an option for gaming only. I had a digit preamp someone had made to help fill out the mids.

Corsair does have a decent set out in your price range as well. But it's more dedicated to gaming from what I can tell.

As for the x530 by logitech, they really are not the same quality as the z623, far less wattage and no mid range much like the z523 which I personally owned.

After reading your requirement again I'm really thinking that you may want to look at the z623 it really is loud as hell and doesn't sound hollow or tinny when played @ near full volume for hours.
