Ok this one has me stumped and I don't know if it is a hardware or software problem.

Firstly I have 2 headsets:

a ex-05 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gioteck-Wireless-Multi-Format-Headset/dp/B005LN5SZ8/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1430140042&sr=1-4&keywords=gioteck+wireless+headset

the receiver connects to the USB port but the headset has Jacks (a 3.5mm and a 2.5mm) that go into the sender.

I also have a standard headset with 2, 3.5mm jacks one for headphones one for the mic. (if anyone cares it came with the collectors edition of guildwars). I will call this the GW headset.

The headphones and the mics work fine on both.

however whenever I have the mic and the headphones plugged in the Microphone either stops working or is has inference (is useless).

So on the EX-05 if both jacks are plugged into the sender(not the computer receiver is plugged into computer by usb) the headphones work but the mic doesn't (there is interface or nothing). If I unplug the headphone jack but keep the mic jack in the receiver the mic works fine.

(I assumed at this point problem with the headset so I tried the other).

The GW headset obviously plugs directly into the computer by the 3.5mm jack (I've done both front and back panel both the same).

headphones work fine but the mic exhibits the same problem. As soon as the headphone jack is removed the mic works fine.

My current work around:

I am currently using the ex-05 (fully plugged in so windows sees headset and mic) but only for sound. I have the GW headset with only the mic plugged in and using that as the mic. this works but obviously is less than ideal.

So sound is going out through the USB and the mic is connected by 3.5mm jack.

I have reinstalled all drivers and made no difference.

I don't think it is a hardware problem as either the USB or the jacks would be the problem not both. Suppose it could be the sound card (its an integrated one I think). But then that would effect it with my work around so I don't think it is that.

Can't be dust as that would be a constant problem.

It is as if there is a crossed wire so that the headhpones interfere with the microphone

So I am at a loss. Any suggestions?

at work at the moment so if someone wants system details I'll get them later.

Apologies this isn't actually helping your issue. But I wanted to add in I'm having the same problem with an EX-05. It's detecting that the EX-05 has both a headset and microphone. But it only seems to play static when I ask to listen to it, and when I set it with with Audacity, it doesn't detect anything, except said static noise.
