My boyfriend has a Samsung Smart TV, and he's never had an issue with it until recently. Every time we turn the TV and press the Smart Hub button, it begins an update, which lasts for ever and ever. We turn the TV off and on to see if it will help, but alas, the same thing happens again. I'm curious to know if anyone else is suffering from this same malfunction? We just want to watch our Amazon Prime and we can't due to our Smart Hub always updating. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

I have the exact same problem. My Samsung suffered from the horrible firmware problem reported for months and months now. After doing everything suggested on the many threads about similar problems, including a factory reset, eventually we got it fixed. Or so it seemed.

Now, it cycles through the same BS every single time it's turned on. It hangs for a while not responding to the smarthub button, then reboots, turning off then on, on its own. Then it hangs again, telling me it's updating if the smarthub button is pressed, which takes anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes!!! Then it reboots itself again, and THEN goes to the smarthub when the button is pressed.

It does this every time, without fail, occasionally going through that whole cycle again one time more before we can actually use the TV.

This is well past asinine, and I honestly want to jump onto some sort of class action lawsuit at this point. This is very obviously some sort of critical error on Samsung's end, that they are either unwilling or unable to fix.

My wifi card/chip is definitely shot, it's plugged directly into the router with a LAN cable. The firmware is definitely the most recent update, confirmed repeatedly.

But yes, it seems to completely reinstall the entire smarthub update and who knows what else, every...single...time the TV is turned on.

In the last five days my Samsung UE46ES8000u has gone from good TV to nightmare. Turns itself off and on with inconsistent frequency. Freezes when changing TV channel the switches off and on again. Loading icon for smart hub (sic) freezes and TV turns off and on again. Click smart hub start and says updating. Network says unavailable. Cannot find a wifi signal with router stapled to TV. Load network settings and flashes router name for one second then disappears. According to some threads on Internet my wifi module is shot. However, TV still runs rubbish when lan hard wired to TV.
I suspect recent firmware update has knackered out TVs. I don't want to spend £120 on a repair to a TV that cost me thousands of pounds.
I rang Samsung, and did a factory reset (turn TV off, then press info, menu, mute, power) starting from scratch and the wifi connected but by the time I was setting satellite channels it couldn't find it again.
I have an approved repair guy coming next week and let you all know what occurs.

Did they fix it by remotely taking over the tv?
Mine is doing the same thing.

Unfortunately, I had to reschedule the repair due to work commitments. The tv repair will now go ahead on Thursday 17th. He is planning to fit a new wifi module inside the television.

I have an UN55ES7100 TV. Had my TV for over two years. I have been dealing with my issue for a few weeks now's. TV worked perfect before but I tried updating the TV firmware after avoiding updates for a long time. No reason to update except to see if anything new or better. Now on latest version. 2004. Now sometimes more than once a day the TV with reboot itself and come back on its own. Sometimes if I turn off the TV it will seem like its off but will turn itself back on after a couple of minutes. Now I'm starting to use the smarthub and it seems to update everyday. I factory reset the TV from service mode and it seemed smarthub works great for a couple day and now it is messed up again. If I start smarthub it says "starting" but actually locks up and it will reboot the TV after a couple of minutes. I watch it complete an update to smarthub then tried to use. It got into the smarthub menu and said again that an update was available.

My TV does the same, it seems to be a Smart Hub bug. Anyone has a solution steps? My TV is out of warranty and it costs $250 for repair rep to come in and asses. Samsung should be doing it for free because it is their software issue, they are selling us TVs for thousand of $$$ that are bad!

For those of you having this issue... If your wireless is having problems and resulting in freezing or constant smart hub updates. Even if you are not using wireless.. Simply pop the small plastic cover off the back (mine was in the lower right just above the power button, when looking at the back of tv). That's the cover for the wireless unit. It takes only light pressure with a flat head or strong finger to pop off. Pull the cable off of the wireless device and you should be good to go. When the wireless devices fail on these tvs they go retarded due to poorly designed firmware. You can also remove the single screw and order a new wireless device.. But If you don't need wireless just pull the cable and rock and roll.

I believe I found a solution to the problem. My Samsung kept turning off every 5 minutes. Annoying as hell. All we did was "reset" the wireless router. and BAM, worked like a charm! It's been at least 25 minutes now that the tv hasn't turned off or read as "updating" over and over (crossing fingers it stays this way now that I did the router reset).......Hope this helps and good luck!!

I called Samsung. They told me the issue was with the one connect mini on mine. I disconnected it and it stopped trying to download updates. They told me I'd have to use a thumb drive to update manually. I of course didn't have one on hand. They basically told me that I needed to buy one so I told them that was an unacceptable response and they are now sending me a thumb drive with the proper firmware on it. Hope this helps others!
