Have upgraded Dell Dim 9150 from XP to Win 7, did a clean install using new Win 7 Installation Disk.
When I go to Dell Site for Updates for Win 7 it recognises my Dell Service Code and says I have Win XP installed and refuses to give me updates for Win 7. How can I fix this please

First off, you can always run the "Systems Analysis" instead of using the service tag option. Theoretically that should scan your hardware & drivers to determine if any updates exist.

However...I think your problem is that Dell never meant for the Dimension 9150 to have Windows 7. If you use the options on that page to manually select your OS, you have very limited choices:
-- 32-bit Windows XP
-- 32-bit Windows Vista
-- BIOS-only (only BIOS & diagnostics)
-- "Not applicable" (same options as BIOS)

This is further confirmed in their support posts:

Thank you for your input which satisyfy the Windows 7 Criteria but what about the special to type Dell drivers required for the Bios,The Audio,The Graphics,The Networking, etc etc I dontbelieve Windows direct download covers those issues?

Thank you again for your support.
Unfortunately Dell (For some reason) do not show on their web site the suitable special to type drivers required to work with the Dell Dimension 9150 and as these are tied in with the various boards used in the 9150 ,it is difficult to fathom out what these drivers might be or where to fetch them from. I am assuming that possibly Dell want potential users of the 9150 to contact them direct to purchase the upgrade XP to Win 7 in which case then they would supply the special to type drivers required to work with win 7. So in reality I appear to be up against a brick wall as I have invested in a Windows 7 Disk already.

However, you should be able to use the Vista drivers (they should work better than the XP drivers).

Biggest thing is...I hope you picked the 32-bit Windows 7 to install. Your system maxes out at 4GB (1GB per slot), & 64-bit Windows 7 uses more memory than 32-bit (plus 32-bit can't use more than 4GB). So, your smoothest operation will be with 32-bit Windows 7.
