Just wondering - I always close my laptop (not shut it down) when I walk away and know I'm not going to use it again for a while, however, my husband does not. Is there any advantage to either?

Solution
If he keeps his running and not in standby/hibernation mode, then yes, his will consume battery and then be forced to keep it constantly charged, heat from running all the time whereas yours is using next to no power.

Besides, having it knocked off a desk or table by people/kids/animals, the odd's of one in standby mode closed still being ok are good with no damage. Being open and running, HDD can take damage, screen, things can be spilled, etc.
