I'm not asking how to make my laptop charge its battery because the battery is shot. My laptop is old and I use it as a home server and is connected to it's power brick and the charging led indicator doesn't turn on and windows it says it's not charging. Today though when I turned it on the led charging indicator lit up but I know it's really not charging because the battery percentage never goes up even though it says it's charging. Is it safe to keep the battery on in this condition where the laptop is trying to charge it but it is not charging or should I take it out? I kept the battery on because it's one of those double capacity batteries that are thick and raises the entire laptop at an angle giving it a nice gap underneath for cooling.

Solution
I would take the battery out, and it is safer that way. These older batteries can leak, especially with heat. You can use something else to prop your system up if you need that for airflow.
