1. What is your budget?
Hopefully under $500, as I need to have it by the start of the next school year.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
Any size. My current 11.6 inch Samsung chromebook 2 is just fine in terms of screen.

3. What screen resolution do you want?
Again, anything that is => 1368x760 (or whatever it is)

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
I have a really good desktop, so this is not supposed to be a replacement. But I still need it to be able to do stuff without lag, and I am completely willing to hack apart a chromebook and put in a new SSD and flash custom firmware if necessary.

5. How much battery life do you need?
Hopefully something close to the battery life of my chromebook (6.5 hours advertiesd, but I can get 2 days out of it normally)

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Not really for gaming, but I sometimes play minecraft and it would be nice to play it on high (or whatever the integrated graphics on my 4790k had)

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Apparently I need to use it for CAD and coding and more stuff, but anything extremely intensive (something like video rendering) will be offloaded to my desktop or dedicated server. It would be better to have a nice processor.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
ANYTHING THAT IS NOT A 16GB SSD

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Any reputable site.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
4 years? Maybe more? I don't want to pay for another upgrade anytime soon, but I know that with this budget I will...

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Don't need one. USB is enough.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
I don't really have any prejudices toward any brands.

13. What country do you live in
USA

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
Questions pretty much answer everything. I need a somewhat cheap laptop to replace my current Samsung Chromebook 2 (the one with an Intel Celeron). I would prefer it to have a good enough processor/graphics not to lag on the Unity desktop, and to be future proof for at least a few years. It's primary purpose is not gaming, but it NEEDS to have an x86-64 processor, as ARM is not supported by many programs. OS doesn't matter, 'cause I'm just going to wipe it and shov1. OS doesn't matter, 'cause I'm just going to wipe it and shove Linux and Chromium OS on it. I would prefer a mechanical hard drive, because I am sick of "out of storage space" on my Chromebook and the stupid lack of a traditional BIOS/EFI. I would also prefer 4GB of ram, because I like to run virtual machines occasionally. Technology recommendations from the website are as follows:
HD screen
Windows 7 preferable (I personally will not use windows)
Consider one with a built-in webcam and microphone
At least 2 GB of memory (RAM), 4 GB recommended
At least 200 GB hard drive
Intel processor recommended
