I'm assuming your TV is to be connected to your PC. Use an HDMI cable or DVI to connect the TV to the PC, then right click on your desktop and click 'Screen Resolution'. Select your monitor config there and the max resolution.

sorry I did not think to see the first link was some kind of sales pitch thing for some kind of software

look over this

https://askleo.com/how_should_i_set_up_my_home_network/

just set up modem- router - switch/hub - devices should do it

If your laptop runs Windows:
- connect second monitor (TV) to the laptop. Your laptop should beep couple of times (as it does when you plug in a USB key).
- press and hold <Windows> key (between <Ctrl> and <Alt>), then <P>. You will see a menu to choose how you want your extra display to be configured. Choose <Extend>.
- Open your browser, but NOT FULL SCREEN. Then move browser' window to the other monitor, here you can maximize it. Start your movie.
- open another copy of the browser on your laptop screen, read your newspaper.
