Here is what I'm working with:
>Emerson LED HDTV (50inch) which has 9pin serial cable (female)
>Dell external PC speakers with self-powered sub-woofer that connects with a 9pin serial cable. (female)

Question:
Can I connect the speakers directly to the TV and NOT go through a computer?
I can't find this info anywhere. Who can help? Thanks! :)

Solution
computer speakers are controlled via their 3.5mm input, regardless of whether or not the control speaker (typically right side) connects to the subwoofer via something that looks like a serial port. pc speakers do not connect via 9pin serial.

unless your tv has a method of exporting audio out (headphone jack, optical, coax outputs...) i would say no, you wont be able to use it directly from your tv as a source.
