So, I've been looking all over the internet for a solution to this. I own an Alienware 18 laptop that I prebuilt on Dell's page. I made it so it came with Dual Nvidia GTX 780's for good gaming. I've been using both cards in SLI (To reduce the overheat and load), and it's worked great.

Last night, I downloaded a new game, and as per usual, I have to manually go to the Nvidia Control Panel to optimize my settings and allow both cards to function in the game. I apply both my cards and run the game. Interestingly, I notice the computer heating up a bit more than usual and stressing more. All my fans were working normally (even the secondary 780 one). But out of curiousity I go into the Nvidia Panel and see much to my surprise that my SLI isn't running both cards. It's supposed to show GeForce gtx 780m (2) and not GeForce gtx 780m (1).

Device manager shows both cards working. I manually opened my laptop and checked the condition of the cards; they're perfectly fine. All the components are in working order.
I've had some overheating issues lately, despite me cleaning my computer at least once a week and checking if everything is ok. I know gaming laptops aren't exactly the best for management, but my lifestyle requires that I move around a lot and I can't afford a desktop AND a Laptop for separate purposes.

Now it shows both cards, but one doesn't work and the computer overheats like crazy that it makes insane noise... :(

Any ideas? Thanks!

I reinstalled them, they both work now, but they're overheating like NUTS.

I registered 90 degrees celcius last night running Far Cry 4. On less cpu intensive games like ESO, Dark Souls II, etc; It drops to 80, but converted to Ferenheight, it's about 176-190 Ferenheight. Now, it only ocurrs when I'm plugged in to the power supply, but if I run on battery mode, FPS drops at least 40 frames and it stops overheating, dropping to 145 farenheight; a more manageable temp.

Im really, really confused. Hell, I can't even run FRAPS without games dropping from 100 fps to like 25 fps. *I know FRAPS does cut down FPS when recording, but hell, never like this.

So, I downloaded the OC guru apps and have reduced some temps, but at a massive FPS cost. Just for kicks I overclocked my cards to see how the temps went, and FPS even dropped more (before the temps hit plus normal levels). So I unplugged, fps dropped to 10-5 in Far Cry, and temp went down to normal levels. The thing is, I used to be able to play ANY game on battery mode with a -5 fps hit. Now it's unplayable

Doesn't even make sense mathematically.

:/

BUMP

And Update

Even with the MSI Afterburner, temps are over 80 degrees. Both cards. It's insane. I don't know whats happening. Even when the computer isnt doing much, like watching a movie or youtube, it heats up to like 70.
