Yes, it can be done, because your B950 is PGA988 socket, like the B960 that I started out with in my laptop. I first upgraded to i5 2450M, then again to the i7 2670qm. The TDP on the i7 I have now is 45, whereas the TDP on the B960 and the i5 2450M is 35 - apparently a non-issue since I haven't had any problems at all.

Just do your research - find out what chipset is on the motherboard, make sure you processor you want is compatible with that chipset and socket.
