M15xr2 Broken power button

Hi and thanks to any help or reply i receive for this post.

My M15x laptop motherboard is broken in many ways, alot of the connectors on the motherboard are cracked/broken to the point a quick fix wont work any more.

However the power button connector is the only one problem I care about.

the power button connector on the motherboard is completely broken
I have made use of my partially broken motherboard by using an external usb mouse/keyboard.

I feel confident and am happy that the motherboard works as it should and I
would like to still use it as a kind of laptop/pc type machine.
I have everything taken care of so far but really need help with one particular issue.

the connector contains 16 pins which all preform different tasks like turn the volume up, turn on stealth mode etcetera.

But I only want to be able to turn the machine on and off.

my question is:
can i find the pins i need from the 16 total and solder a tack switch on so i can power my machine?

I would be very grateful if anyone knows where i can start looking to find a "pin-out" of the 16pin power button so that i can single out the "on/off (if that is possible)

or perhaps i should buy a multimeter and find the voltage of each pin?

All you have to do is systematically short 2 of the pins at a time until the machine turns on, then you can try to solder two wires to a momentary switch that will serve the desired function.

thankyou for you answer but sofar i cant make the motherboard power on, i've tried shorting the connections between the pins on the motherboard using a key and also with wire but cant seem to find the right combination.
im going to try and force the motherboard to post by flashing it now to make sure it can even turn on

ok good idea,
I ended up carefully ripping off the connector to show the solder points rather than the pins themselves and i think that by doing that i took the grounding off on each side of the connection plate, but perhaps they were there to just keep the connector in place.
i need to buy a multimeter but im going to give all the points a fresh solder and then try as you said.
