My keyboard on my Toshiba Satellite laptop isn't working. The power button is the only thing that works. I've tried Luna's suggestion but that does nothing once I'm done following the steps. It's crazy because when I power it on and press F2 repeatedly, the keyboard works fine in that screen. Can anyone help me? I have windows 8.1. Also, when I tried Luna's suggestion, my laptop made a funny noise (clicking), and I seen smoke coming from the side vents. Help!

Something has fried inside the Laptop if it smoked. No troubleshooting Windows will fix this. If the sound you heard was a crisping/crackling/hissing click, most likely a voltage regulator died. It provides power to the USB, keyboard or various other parts. This is not user fixable without extensive electronics repair and reverse engineering knowledge. You have a serious internal electrical problem inside, contact Toshiba customer support immediately. If under warranty, they should replace it for free.

Also, what was this Luna's suggestion, I want to know what it was. I doubt it had to do with the component failure, but it is important I know what it was to continue helping you. Most likely the component was slowly dying, and finally gave way at that point in time.
