Hi guys I got a laptop for free from my aunt, she said it always turns off whenever web browsing or something. I figured it was just a simple virus in the registry that caused it to do that. But I reinstalled windows (hard than you think to get ahold of 32bit Vista). Issue still occurs. I changed the HDD to and SSD. Issue still occurs.

I figured it was the battery but I took the battery out and used just the power cord, same issue.

I am thinking that the motherboard is not supplying enough power to the CPU or something.. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Laptop is an Aspire-5610

Sounds like a power issue to me as well. If it were a desktop I'd say replace the PSU. Since its not, I would say check the Acer forums to see if its a common issue there may be a fix. Unfortunately with a laptop you may also be stuck with a brick.

I am completely aware of what issues mean what when it comes to desktops but I have no idea about laptops. That's why I am asking here :S Thanks for your input! I would have said it is the PSU as well if it was a desktop.

I can't tell if you're being snarky or not, its too early in the morning, however I took it upon myself to search Acer's site to find that this model has heat issues with the processor and many other people have had the same problem cured by cleaning out the processor vents and heat sink, and also going into the bios and setting the fan to always on (which IMHO may be a bit extreme). Hopefully this helps

Haha no I wasn't. This is why I hate not talking in person :p

Anyways! Thank you very much. I did some looking too. I could only find other Aspire models that were having issues that were similar to mine but not exact. Thanks for the help I will get back to you to see if that was the issue.

I GOT IT. With the help of you, you pointed out possible over heating of the CPU. So as I was disassembling it to blow the dust out, I decided to take the CPU cooler fan out, as well as the heat sink and realized that there was literally no airflow exhausting because there was enough lint to make a sock blocking the airflow. So I got rid of that and I also re applied some thermal paste. (There was so much lint that I thought Acer added it to dampen the sound of the CPU cooler. Both of those things I did did the trick! Thank you :)
