I've been using HP for years, including my first HP nc6000 in 2008, after which I upgraded to an HP ProBook 4340s in 2012, and then to an HP ProBook 4540s in 2013. (The nc6000 suffered the chip cracking failure, and I gave the 4340s to my wife.) All three of these HPs have been fairly bulletproof, but I'm looking to upgrade, but I'm not sure what to go with.

This Lenovo Z70 captured my attention, mostly because it has an anti-glare 17.3" monitor, while this HP ProBook 450 G1 has an anti-glare 15.6" monitor.

Regarding specifications, they both seem suitable for my job as a freelance writer, as they should be able to run a couple dozen windows without a problem, and they are both selling for $600, though I would likely add another 4 GB chip to the Lenovo, and I'd also be taking a 0.4 GHz cut in speed with the Lenovo (is that enough to make a difference?). I'm torn between my long history with HP and trying something new with Lenovo.

Suggestions?

Just thought I'd follow up on this thread. I decided to go with the Lenovo Z70-80. I've been using it since May, and I couldn't be happier. I added a 4 GB RAM chip to the system and dropped the Windows Paging File. It's smooth running, has a big beautiful screen, and some pretty excellent speakers for a laptop. It has fairly solid construction and seems like it'll last well enough. I regularly have a dozen programs running at a time, without a single hiccup.

I even game from time to time, which does point out that cooling is an issue. As long as I throttle back the graphics, Star Conflict runs smooth without overheating. On the other hand, no matter how I tweak it, Marvel Heroes 2015 overheats my system, even with an auxiliary fan pointed straight through the CPU cooler. Then again, this isn't a gaming rig.
