I need an laptop with a GTX800 series or higher Nvidia graphics card under $2000cad/$1600usd for school. Something on the smaller size (13-15) would be nice, and I also need a good display screen for rendering objects. So far I found the Alienware 15, HP Omen, and Lenovo Y50. Out of the three which one is better? And any other recommendations?

now i know i said stay away from thin laptops but this is the exception it has 2 exaust vents where as most thin laptops dont have 2 exaust vents it has a decent graphics card and a SSD stock it is a 13 inch laptop so it is on the smaller side but it is very portable.

Both are US models though.

These are all Newegg Canada. Most of the ASUS ROG units have good TN panels, but a couple of them have IPS displays. You'll just need to check each model with a google search to see which are IPS, which is what you probably want if color accuracy is more important than price.

Thanks for the recommendations. I do game a bit and I am sort of looking for something more portable. From the the links above I prefer the Aorus X3.

I mainly use rhino, cad, and solidworks.

All indications are that the Aorus units are fantastic in terms of performance, but are much more expensive than other units with similar hardware specs. Some of their models also are reported to have terrible display quality, so be sure to aggressively check the reviews on the display included with any model you are looking into.

Any high end gaming GPU is easily just as capable of complex geometry, 3D and rendering graphics, video and CAD applications as the workstation adapters so long as they support the necessary features like CUDA etc. Just make sure whatever model you go with has the capability of running any framework that might be required for a particular application title.

Yeah, I am just looking for something with the best "deal"

IF you can look past the fact that this unit is bigger than what you really wanted, which is really a plus in so many ways including the fact that larger units tend to not overheat as much when big graphics cards are installed since larger cooling systems can be used, it's a great deal. It has a GTX 870M, which performs much better than the 860M, and all the other features you'd want. Reviews are very good and again, the price, considering it's on the Newegg Canada website, is phenomenal for a GTX 870m unit.
