I have a video capture device for my computer, but would like to record sound. Is there a device you can get in which you plug in an input of sound that is outputted to the computers microphone socket without just putting a microphone to speaker, but physically plug it in.

yep, any of the jacks that normally output sound can be used (preferably one you dont currently use). windows should ask you what you plugged in (if not, just open the sound manager and tell it manually), you tell it it's microphone or line in and then select that as input for your stream

Are you saying all you would need is something like this and to plug in into the microphone jack?

depends on what the output of the thing generating the sound is. if it's 2rca (like in the pic) yes, that works. if it's jack you need a jack-jack cable.
