Is there a light temp and fan speed monitor for my T400 laptop? I have tried HW Monitor but it doesn't show fan speed. Thanks.

EC (embedded controller) is something the manufacturer provides to monitor what they decide is important. Leaving it out, or putting one in that doesn't monitor or control the function you are interested in produces the same result.... there could be more than one EC. It would appear that Lenovo did not put in an EC to monitor fan function or if they did, Martin isn't aware of or as yet attempted to include it.
I'm typing from a lappie and i see two fan rpms:

When you opened HWiNFO you may have seen a popup saying that it detected and an Embedded Controller and that reading it may cause some slowdowns. If you disable it, you won't get the rpm readings. of course if your laptop doesn't have the EC, then you won't get them either.

Sometimes if under no load, I won't see the GPU fan, just the CPU fan

Then, if i load Furmark, the GPU actually has something to do and HWiNFO pops up the rpm

Didn't show up with EC enabled. I guess these T400's are hard to get the fan readings. I did find this that showed the RPM's.
